Overview

Mackie Field is a very small green space open to the public. There is not much to do here other than throw a ball around for a dog. It wouldn't make a good picnic spot nor much of a playground but all are welcome to use the space as they please.

As with all spaces please treat it with respect and pick up after your dog, the council doesn't come by much to maintain it and you should just pick up your dog's mess, like seriously, pick it up, you're an adult and it ruins it for everyone else. If you often forget poo bags then why not tie a few to the leads you use for emergencies, otherwise I'm sure a passing walker will give you a spare.

A History of Mackie Field

In the beginning God created light. Some 65 million and change years later he got round to putting in a planning application for some new houses in Stewarton. Initially intended as a toddler's play park, presumably to improve the chance of getting planning permission, the space instead became nothing.

As it was written, in the various deeds, the space's ownership was split evenly among the righteous. The righteous being whoever decided to buy the 40 plots spread across Mackie Avenue, Ailsa View, and Corsehill Place. It was determined to keep the ownership of the land secret from all who did not possess the ability to check the Scottish Land Information Service at this link, forbidden knowledge, with confirmation of the official wording restricted to those with £3.60 to buy any of the properties' deeds to confirm.
There are rumours it once had a gate but such things would be impossible to discover without speaking to our neighbours. The important things are that no one person owns this land and no one person can restrict anyone's access to this land. Even if one person had managed to wrest control of this space, via conquest or chequebook, they still wouldn't be able to restrict it as it would not meet any of the very limited exceptions to Scotland's right to roam.

Public Space

A very small space but very much open to the public for whatever legal purposes they have.

Dogs Welcome

Dogs are welcome and, to be fair, are really the most suitable use for the small and frankly uninspiring patch of grass.

Community Owned

The Bowes Rigg Soviet owns this space collectively so no one person can ruin it for you.
